Judging day for MPG Awards 2016

The cream of UK record production was well represented at the judging day for the MPG Awards 2016 on December 7th. Many thanks to the staff at Air Edel Studios in London for hosting the event and looking after everyone.

During a full day of listening to music submitted by the shortlisted nominees and/or their representatives, the discussion was lively and stimulating. Votes for the nominees in each category was cast by secret ballot, but only after intense discussion of the merits of all those nominated, and also the whole process.

mpg_logo_white_bg_awards_2016_PS_rgbThe MPG Awards committee has always maintained that the various procedures involved in and leading up to the presentation of the awards should always be subject to the greatest scrutiny and open to improvement whenever necessary. It was valuable to hear all of the options from the room. One of the topics concerned the very nature of record production, and in particular, the question of whether or not an artist producing their own material is somehow different from a producer working on other artists’ work.

The judges taking part at Air Edel included:

Dave Bascombe Sam Inglis John Dent Gil Norton Cam Blackwood
Jake Gosling Paul Epworth Ken Nelson Steve Levine Andrew Hunt
Richard Lightman Helienne Lindvall Mick Glossop Tony Platt Paul Hitchman
Andy Bradfield Barry Grint Cenzo Townshend John Leckie Richard Jones
Flood Josh & Tom from Jungle Will Gregory (Goldfrapp) Charlie Andrew Andy Gill
Tom Dalgety Alex ‘Cores’ Hayes Dan Cox Geoff Pesche  Robbie Nelson
Haydn Bendall Ed Horrox  Tara Richardson Adam Sherwin
