‘Radio 2 Folk Awards’ winner pays tribute to Producer/Label: "Producer puts his money where his mouth is to invest in artist development"

Congratulations to MPG member, Mark Hutchinson, at Rooksmere Studios for helping steer Blair Dunlop towards winning this years 'Horizon Award' at the BBC Folk Awards, held at the Celtic Connections festival, Glasgow.

Producer/Engineer Mark Hutchinson works out of Rooksmere Studios in Northamptonshire, from where he also runs Rooksmere Records.  He signed Blair to the label after watching him grow as an artist over many years.  Hutchinson played guitar and sang in a couple of bands with Blair’s father Ashley Hutchings (founder member of Fairport Convention & Steeleye Span) which is how he came to know of Blair’s emerging talents.

'Blight & Blossom' was released in October 2012 and since has received critical acclaim in the folk world and beyond.

"Mark's done a great job", says Blair. "He's a friend. He's placed in the Folk scene but his roots are outside of it.  In short we're on the same page, we like the same kind of things and we get on with each other". (Acoustic Magazine, Jan 2013).

Mark’s plan for the future is to continue his work with Blair whilst helping other emerging artists on the folk/acoustic scene to realise their full potential.
