Membership of the Music Producers Guild (UK)

There are two categories of membership of the MPG.

Full Membership (£120 per year) - this is open to recording industry professionals (see the eligibility requirements below) and provides a substantial number of extra membership benefits:

• access to Full Member-only sections of the MPG web site, including "Professional Benefits" (legal advice, accountancy, equipment rental, 50% discount on the joining fee at AIM) - details here
• free entry to all MPG events (except the MPG Awards)
• substantial discounts on tickets to the MPG Awards
• free invitation to events organised by the APRS and AES (UK)
• 50% discount on Individual Membership of the APRS (details here)
• voting privileges in the MPG Awards shortlist selection process
• searchable entry in the Members Directory, which is accessed regularly by artists, managers and record companies looking for producers and engineers to work on recording projects

Associate Membership - (£55 per year) is open to anyone involved in the production of recorded music, but who has not yet achieved the required number is credits for Full Membership. Associate Membership provides everything except the above list.

Associate Members' entry to MPG events is charged at a reduced rate, nominally equivalent to 50% of the charge to non-members.

Associate Members can choose to purchase either or both of these add-on options:

• Entry in the Members Directory (for £25 per year).

• MPG Event "season ticket", which provides one year's free entry to all MPG events, except the MPG Awards (£25 per year).


Discounts for longer term membership:

Members can opt for extended membership periods of 2 or 3 years, and receive an appropriate subscription discount:

• Full Membership: 2 years £215, 3 years £305 (savings of £25 and £55, respectively)
• Associate Membership: 2 years £99, 3 years £140 (savings of £11 and £25, respectively)

Membership Revision:

An existing MPG member may revise the terms of their membership at any time. If eligible, they may upgrade from Associate Membership to Full Membership, and/or extend the period of membership. This is a very flexible process, e.g. you may even revise from a 3-year Associate Membership to a 1-year Full Membership.

Any credit that remains in your subscription account is deducted from the charges listed above.

APRS members:

Individual Members of the APRS are granted a 50% discount on Full Membership of the MPG (subject to the eligibility requirements below).

Note that, if you are a current MPG member, and have already taken advantage of the 50% discount on APRS Individual Membership, you will not be eligible for the 50% MPG discount (and vice versa). Moreover, if you are a current MPG Full Member, and you subsequently join the APRS as an Individual Member, you will be eligible only for the 50% discount on your new APRS membership, not your MPG membership.


Full Membership eligibility

To qualify for Full Membership of the MPG, you must have:

6 credits for production, engineering, mixing or mastering on commercially released tracks, either on single or multiple CDs, vinyl or cassette albums, EPs and singles, or DVDs. These tracks must have been commercially available via traditional outlets, i.e. record shops or mail order. Personal sales, i.e. directly by the artist at live venues, do not qualify.

or:

12 credits for production, engineering, mixing or mastering on commercially released tracks or two full-length CD releases that are available via digital download from recognised online music retail sites. Sales from personal websites do not qualify. Tracks solely available free from other websites, e.g. a MySpace page, do not qualify.
