The death of Charlie Gillett is a very sad loss to the UK music industry

The account of Charlie's involvement in music is well documented in the Guadian's obituary, quoted here, and originally published here.

It is indeed a sad loss. I didn't know him that well, but we would bump into one another occasionally, and worked together some time ago, in the original Manor Studios, back in the 70's. He was producing an artist for his own label, Oval Records.

I remember him as a genuinely nice guy, one of those deservedly respected people in the industry who was inspired by his love of music, seeking to make a living from it only as a secondary consideration.
