Because apparently a 10 year old design with components that can only have gone down in price, the desk, a 72 ( ok it's big but it's for a big room) will set me back a ...

To anyone outside the music business, this seems obvious ("of course they should be paid...."), but to many people on the verges of, "the industry", recorded music should be available free to anyone. <br/><br/>Don't you agree that people should be paid for their wo...

I read this today - from a blog by music industry pundit, Bob Lefsetz: <br/> <br/>"Peter cuts tracks to tape.  But what about the hard time getting tape?  He just uses the same reels over and over again.  Since he transfers the tracks off so soon, there's no print-through.  Alt...

Many record companies, especially the majors, now demand that mixers and producers supply stems (i.e. sub-mixes of the various components of a mix) along with the actual master mix files.<br/><br/>They don't necessarily provide the resources (i.e. studio time, extra fees) to achieve t...

I am an up coming producer and a have a very fair contract with clients. However, more recently clients are not happy signing a contract, as they feel that major labels will not touch them. Dear Members, I am a relatively new member to the MPG and not quite sure how things are done - but... I have two questions; 1/ The legalities, and record company use, of Stems. (memories of the SSL situation in the 1980's) 2/ Mixing on 'Spec'. I have been offered three since Christmas. I gues...
